Peninsula BlackBird II Portable Memory Barcode Reader

Installation Guide For Mac & PC.

Make sure the batteries are connected to the reader correctly and start scanning your barcodes.
This is done by simply pointing the reader at the barcode and pressing the right hand side button once. You will hear a beep to confirm that the barcode has been read.

Then connect the reader to your computer using the RS232 serial cable provided. If you don't have a RS232 serial port then connect the RS232 cable to the USB serial converter that is also provided and connect it to a USB port.

If you use the USB serial converter you need to install the driver for it first. This is located in the windows driver folder for PC's and the MAC driver (called usbserial.pkg) is just located in the MAC folder.

Please note that your computer must be turned off when connecting the serial cable to your serial port.



Insert the disc into your disc drive and locate the Syncroniser icon.

Drag the icon onto your desktop and then double click it.





You will now be presented with the syncroniser menu screen shown below.











Now set 'Connected To' to COM1. (USB serial 0 on the MAC)


In the Data Format menu set 'Between Records' to Return.

Set 'Blackbird Items Per Record' to 1.

Set 'Between Items' to Return.


















You now need to have an empty text field to put the barcodes in to so open up notepad( on the PC ) or text edit( on the MAC ). Any text field will do, We have used notepad and text edit just as an example.


Now press the right hand side button but keep it pressed till it beeps (between 5 to 10 seconds) to enter download mode.

Your barcodes will now be displayed in your text field.

If your barcodes are not displayed then change the 'Connected to' port to a different setting until you find the correct port for your serial connection.
